Ending a trial: switch it off, what stops, what you keep

Who can switch OCTOPUS off at any step, what stops when they do, and what you keep.

Who can switch it off

You name who may switch it off; on the first steps that is the decision owner and IT. Autonomy is set per lane, and new automation runs in shadow first: it records what it would have done and does nothing outside, with a decision date and a kill switch. You can brake one lane or the whole fleet. Every approval is logged, so you can see what it did.

What you have at each step

StepWhat you have at the endWhere you can stop
0. Ask firstAnswers, and the published fit lists.Any time. Nothing has started.
1. The fit checkYour checklist, with the reason for each box.At the verdict, which you record.
2. One ruleYour conflicting answers side by side, with their sources. Before anything is connected.
3. One team's copyThe review at the planned stop: what the record shows, and whether to go on.At the planned stop, or earlier with the off switch.
4. A person decidesDecisions on the record, with who made each one and when.Any time. Nothing irreversible runs without the owner.
5. Agreed rulesThe agreed rules, who agreed them, and a log of every approval.Any time. The off switch stops it at once.

Retention settings are not published here; ask the team.

Before you start

The review sheet IT received before anything connected. It records how to switch the connection off and when the trial ends.

Steps

  1. Check who may switch it off. You named them. On the first steps that is the decision owner and IT.
  2. To stop one part, brake its lane. The rest keeps running.
  3. To stop all automation, brake the whole fleet.
  4. To end the trial, switch the connection off as the review sheet says. The sheet records how to switch it off, how credentials are revoked, and when the trial ends.
  5. Read what it did. Every approval is logged, so you can see what ran and who approved it.

What you have at the end

Automation is off and the connection is closed. What you got back at each step is in the table above. What happens to stored material after a trial is a retention setting, which is not published here: get it from the team in writing before anything connects.
