# Decision record: every page validates before it ships

> An example of the decision-record page type, using a real decision about these docs.

This page shows the shape of a decision record: context, decision, status and consequences. The page type is a proposal in the content model behind these docs. The decision itself is real.

## Context

These pages make claims about OCTOPUS that people and AI agents rely on. A page with missing or malformed metadata would still look fine to a reader while giving agents wrong facts about it.

## Decision

Every page carries typed front matter and is checked against a published schema when the site is built. A page that fails the check does not ship.

## Status

accepted

## Consequences

A malformed page stops the build instead of reaching readers. The schema is published, so anyone can check a page against it: see [Schema for these docs](/reference/docs-schema/).
