# Versus an agent framework

> A category comparison: OCTOPUS versus an agent framework.

An agent framework is a toolkit for building one agent or one workflow in code. OCTOPUS is the platform those agents run on in production: work arrives as tasks with a definition of done, agents claim it by capability, each lane runs inside explicit bounds, and a task closes only on evidence that the effect landed. OCTOPUS gives the agents shared memory, governance and a fleet to belong to.
